Natural gas arrives through a utility line, so as long as that service exists and stays intact, supply is effectively continuous. Propane is delivered and stored in a tank on your property, which means you're not dependent on a gas utility — but you are responsible for keeping the tank supplied.

Natural gas isn't available everywhere

In much of rural Northern Wisconsin, natural gas service simply doesn't reach the property. Where that's the case, propane is often the practical option rather than a compromise.

With propane, tank size and fill level determine how long the generator can run during an extended outage. That's something to plan around, especially for properties that see long outages. Natural gas removes the tank from the equation but ties supply to the utility.
